HPRshredder 2025-08-11 So Many Ideas – So Little Time This post was originally made to my ko-fi page on the 23rd of March, 2022 which can be found here. As I'm getting closer to the end of Season 2, I'm just so excited about Season 3 & beyond. I haven't been uploading much non-Retro Odyssey content, but I really want to. I just have these fears about uploading something that isn't to that standard of quality, but then I have to remind myself it really is just YouTube. I have to remind myself it's okay to make extra things I want to make and that they don't have to be as produced as the flagship series. When I originally thought about wanting to make these I had very unrealistic expectations as to how long it would take me. I thought I could do one a week, easy. And that was with school and a full-time job. To be fair; I had envisioned more of a discussion-only approach back then. But as I learned more about editing and realized all I could do with the tools that I had they became more complex. And in addition to that, I noticed that there was a bit of a void on YouTube for "reviews" that really explained exactly what you're doing in the game. You would only walk away with a partial understanding. As the length it takes to make these has increased, oddly, the desire to make more has as well. It's a lot of fun even though it consumes most of my free time. I keep having ideas for more things I want to make, but I also don't want the quantity of other things to outweigh the Retro Odyssey videos, since I view those as the core project that I'm working on. But it's also entirely possible I'm taking this too seriously. It feels a little silly in some ways to put that much thought into something that will get between 300 and 1200 views, but it does bring me joy when people find and enjoy them, so IDK. I think I'm treating this more as just a canvas to type out my thoughts to maybe arrive at some sort of conclusion about what to do. A few of the things I want to make: Channel Trailer explaining what Retro Odyssey even is A video based on "Ask Iwata" and what Satoru Iwata means to me A Defense of the "second half" of Dark Souls: why I think it's not that bad, and how it can mean so many different things given the structure of the game. A video about the trees in Breath of the Wild; the different types, how many there are, how you can see them so far in the distance, and how I think they are ultimately the best trees in any video game How to best enjoy & experience retro games Why younger people should try play older games A video about how I make my videos Retro Odyssey Recap #2 & Retro Game Giveaway #2 I also want to stream some for fun; Castlevania FDS Elden Ring Blind Dark Souls II CRT Streams actually filming my little white CRT That's partially an excuse to play games I don't otherwise have time to play right now; while feeling like I'm being productive lol. I have to remind myself things won't be perfect. Videos like Layla, Hi No Tori, and Dragon Buster probably won't bring in more of an audience. I'm going to try and have more fun with the videos and not put too much stress on myself over perfect editing. I will say that when the game is really good or really unique, I do feel extra pressure for the editing to be perfect, but when it's painfully mediocre like Layla... I find I let more things remain imperfect. For anyone reading; if you have any thoughts I'd love to hear them. Regardless of the time it takes, I do plan to continue making videos no matter what. I hit 1k as well which is neat, but I had 600 from 2012 so it's not a true 1k. But it brings me closer to the partnership program which would be a big personal milestone for me. I'm at ~1200 watch hours in the calendar year, and I need 4000 to apply. I might hit it late summer. That's my goal. Thanks for reading. :-) Go Back Share (Copy Link)
